Score-Boosting Tactics

Power-ups here aren't just for show; grabbing one at the right moment to slow down a rival can flip a race in the final stretch. Holding onto an item for a tight corner rather than firing it immediately usually pays off better, since a well-placed slowdown on a rival mid-turn does more damage than one used on a straightaway. Learning each of the nine tracks' shortcut routes matters too, since the animal roster handles similarly enough that track knowledge ends up being the real skill gap between a beginner and someone who's put in a few real runs.
